While my main emphasis on this blog is building coin collections using metal detectors, I also find many other valuable treasures in the form of jewelry and relics. As I did in the post for 20 Favorite / Best Coin Finds, I include the date, the metal detector used, and the depth the item was located at. Most of these finds come from the land or water around Tarpon Springs, FL.

1. Star of Linde 14K 4 Diamond Sapphire Ring – Found in the summer of 1973 in Tarpon Beach wearing a White’s Amphibian (diver’s model). First Water Ring Find – Just 1 Inch Deep.

2. WWI Gas Mask / WWII Jeep – White’s two-box instrument used on war training grounds in Tarpon Springs. Gas mask 4 ft. deep and frontal jeep and 8 foot engine. Backhoe used to retrieve and sell gas mask for $ 150.00.

3. 1936 Sterling Silver Lighter – Fisher 1260 with mini coil used to find this viable lighter at approximately 8 in. Deep in the Medium Grass of Sunset Hills School (1990).

4. Confederate Soldier’s Burial Marker – Found in Tarpon (1992) using Garrett Master Hunter 7 in a vacant lot that is being cleared for the gym parking lot (only 3 inches deep).

5. 1926 Macy’s Department Store Scale – Found in a remote undeveloped area in Tarpon called the “Jungle.” Medeford BFO with 5/12 inch combo coil used for locating at 2 feet. deep. Weighed about 200 pounds and could not be restored (1970).

14 Karat Mens 6.1 / 3K Diamond Ring – My personal favorite ring find of over 400 gold and silver rings. Good fit found with Fisher CZ 20 at 3 inches deep TS Beach (1996).

7. Sterling & Gold Embellished Men’s Watch Band – Made at Columbia SA in 1924, this beauty stands in the old football stadium (1975) at approximately 4 inches. depth with Fisher M Scope 11.

8. 18 Karat Ladies Ring: I found this garnet ring with my Fisher 1260 with approximately 2 in. Mini coil. deep. The ring was dated 1895 (my oldest ring find), engraved from the Lemon St.

9. WWII Navy Silver Ring – Found in vacant lot on Levis / Lime St. and returned to owner who lost it in 1942 just prior to shipping. Garrett MH 7 with sniper coil used to locate the ring 45 years later, 1987 at about 2 inches deep.

10. White Gold Wedding Band – Dated 1949, I found this ring at the Tarpon High football stand on my first day of metal detecting – 12/25/69 with Medeford BFO at 2 inches deep. Ring returned to the couple who lost it in the fall of 1967.

11. 1921 Silver Dollar in SS Bezel – Located on the Tarpon Elemtary Playground in 1993. Fisher 1260 found this beauty at 11 inches deep.

12. Caché (45 UB) Bank tokens: the first tokens of the National Bank minted in 1918 and buried in 1929 with the stock market crash. Fisher 1260 used in 1990 on a then 92 year old property. the old bank president who buried them more than a foot deep. He let me keep 45.

13. Antique 14K White Gold Onyx Ring – My first waterless beach find made with the Jetco BFO detector in 1970 in Dunedin Beach (3 inches deep).

14. Cache of 13 coins / tokens – My second stash – found in a vacant lot on Oak St. in Tarpon using Fisher 1260 in 2000. Valued at over $ 2000.00, these coins were in a tobacco can about 8 inches long. depth.

15. 1868 Gold Dollar Coin Ring – My first find of a gold coin (1985) featuring a Bounty Hunter Big Bud at Fred Howard Park. The ring was less than two inches deep in sandy soil.

16. 2 Tarpon Springs HS class rings – Found with CZ 20 at the first exit at Fred Howard Beach (Spring Break 1985). He returned the two rings and one belonged to one of my students. Both were less than 2 inches deep.

17. 3 World War II Artillery Shells (Live): unearthed in 1971 using BFO detectors from Relco and Jetco in the area used for artillery training in 1941-42. The projectiles measured between 6 and 8 inches. deep.

18. 1 Carat 24 Karat Diamond Nugget Pendant in 22 in. gold chain – Valued at $ 4500.00 and found with CZ 20 at Fred Howard Beach in shallow sand. Returned to the owner.

19. 1880 Orange Belt Rail Road Brass Lock – Located along a bypass line in Tarpon Springs approximately one foot deep with 12-inch coil Medeford BFO.

20. 14K Antique Clock – Found in Clearwater, FL in the mall parking lot with Fisher 1210 less than an inch deep (2002).
