So you want to potty train your baby, but you don’t know where to look because you’ve never done it before. Well, you came to the right place. I’ll show you some great resources for baby potty training. I’ll give you the basics here. First of all, potty training your baby isn’t really about technique, it’s about mindset. You see a lot of people think it’s all about technique and end up spending a lot of time spinning their wheels trying to get their baby to go potty constantly.

You see, no matter what technique or method you use to potty train, no matter if you want your child to do it standing up or sitting down, you have to remember that mindset is everything. Let’s dig a little deeper and see what these mindsets are. You have to be consistent with your child’s potty training. Sometimes you have to go the extra mile and tell your babysitter or whoever takes care of your child to potty train her the same way you do. If not consistent, this can send mixed messages to your child and the results will be inconsistent. Put another way, if you want your baby to go to the bathroom to urinate and poop constantly, then you need to be consistent with potty training.

Potty training can be a frustrating ordeal for you and your baby if you let it. Therefore, you must realize that your child is a child and let him be if he makes a mess. You don’t need to show your child that you’re disappointed in him or her, but rather show your child that you’re disappointed in the mess they’ve caused. You can do this by making disapproving faces and statements when you’re cleaning up the mess. Don’t worry about your child understanding you if he doesn’t speak the language yet. Most communication is done through body language and your baby will get the message. Children at this age naturally want to please their parents, so use that to your advantage.

Aside from showing your disapproval by cleaning up the mess, you should not show any signs of disapproval during the entire potty training process. That’s the mindset of always being a source of positive reinforcement. No scolding during training. It’s frustrating for you and your baby. Your child is capable of amazing things but not without mistakes because, after all, we are all human beings. Be positive and watch in awe as your child quickly learns what he needs to do.

Adhering to the positive mindset, you should reward your child if they have done the right thing, urinating or pooping on the toilet or whatever potty training device you choose. You can give him a snack, preferably a salty one as your child will want to drink more water. Then your child would have more opportunities to practice. You can use baby potty training graphics to reward too. I’ll be posting one of these on my blog soon, so check back often.

It is possible to train your child in as little as 3 days with the correct method if you fully commit to it. That means you may need to take a few days off from work or your child may need to take a few days off from day care. Commit yourself and commit to consistency throughout the training and you’ll see how your child reciprocates her consistency and commitment to results.
