Nurofen 400 Tablet

In a recent article in JAMA, an article entitled “Use of Nurofen, A Brand Name Advil”, by Bernard Katz, PhD, and Ruth Guedesky, MD, appeared entitled “Detection, Treatment, and Prevention of Migraine Using the NSAID, Bupropion, in Adults: A Case Study”. In this article, Dr. Katz and Ms. Guedesky make a compelling case that the use of nurofen (a common brand name for naproxen) in the treatment of acute migraine is potentially hazardous. They specifically noted that use of naproxen may lead to vomiting, loose teeth, bleeding, and diarrhea.

The researchers also point out that long-term use of naproxen may cause gastrointestinal problems including ulceration and duodenal ulcers. They further noted that patients using NSAID should be monitored carefully and should obtain regular medical evaluation and consultation from their doctor. The main cause of death in patients using naproxen is congestive heart failure. The combination of this agent with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), diuretics, aspirin and other medication may result in serious adverse health effects. In particular, NSAIDs have been associated with a number of reported side effects including chest pain, stomach pain, diarrhea, dizziness, mental confusion, joint aches, vomiting, loss of taste, and more.

One case report indicates that two female patients were treated with nurofen 400 tablet migraine therapy and had a good result. Both patients had severe attacks at the beginning of the therapy. During the first attack, one patient experienced mild visual aura, light sensitivity and nausea. On the second incident, the patient experienced bilateral pains over both ears and nausea. The attacks progressed and both patients had to discontinue the therapy because the attacks became more frequent and severe. Similar symptoms had occurred in one of the male patients as well but the doctor was unaware of this case and considered it as “unexplained”.

The patients had stable HIV-AIDS after that. After four weeks on voor de werkzame, both patients had significant improvement (pityria). Another interesting case was reported by another HIV infected person. Two weeks after starting nurofen, she experienced moderate pain in her upper back.

Three other HIV infected patients had similarly positive results. Patient number five had her first attack after nurofen 400 tablet migraine therapy. She had no pain prior to the attack. She also noticed moderate visual disturbances. One week after beginning nurofen, her visual images improved significantly.
