Finally, you’re giving yourself some serious luxury and comfort for your bed. In these difficult times, spending so much time at home, we must take care of ourselves. What better way than to create an oasis of pure comfort and luxury for your bed. You may also need a new mattress, but the addition of a feather or feather mattress may put this purchase off for a while.

You have decided on a feather bed or a feather bed (down topper), but you are not sure which is better, more comfortable, more luxurious and of course which style. It is important to remember that there is a big difference between a down comforter and a down comforter. Both may weigh the same, but down is a light, fluffy cluster that rises to form a puffy cover that’s soft and delicious to sink into. The pen is flat with a quill, so it offers a less raised and firmer experience. Down is more expensive than feathers, but it will last for decades.

Regardless of which one you choose, style is important. A hundred years ago it was just a bag, seamless. Also back then probably all feathers or a mix of feathers and down.

This style requires a lot more padding to remove unwanted changes. If it wasn’t filled, you would find yourself sleeping on cloth as the filling would have shifted to the sides. If properly filled, this super pillow will be very puffy and feel wonderful.

The deflector box. Baffle means there is a fabric wall between the top layer and the bottom fabric layer. This allows the fill (especially down) to lift up. Sew-through feathers and toppers are available, but sewn-in basically means you don’t need as much padding. It’s also important to remember that the more filling you have, the more padding your down comforter or down topper will provide, and therefore more super-luxury and comfort. The baffle box has an opening in each box so over time the filler can migrate, however this takes some time, maybe years. It is not easy to massage the padding back into its individual box once it has been moved. After a few years, the padding will end up on the sides, top, and bottom. Renewal can solve this problem.

The horizontal style with a 3-part baffle is another option. Like the bag style, it has more padding, but not as much, since it has some seams.

The most efficient style is the baffle channel. There are enough seams to limit movement and the channels are wide so with the baffle you can have a lot of padding. The padding can only move in 2 directions up and down and for this reason it is easy to change the position of the padding when fluffing. When changing the bedding, simply shake it from the bottom 2 corners, then take the palm of your hand and move the filling up the channels. Turn the foot up and shake out those 2 corners and use the palm of your hand to reposition the padding. Voila, like new.

Another tip for using your down or feather duvet is that instead of putting it under your bottom sheet which gives it a neat look, a better experience is to put it in its cover on top of your bottom sheet on another bottom or bottom sheet. It may not be quite as fancy, but the level of luxury and comfort is second to none.

For the care of your feather or down mattress, it is recommended to renew (clean the filling and new cover) every 7 to 10 years. In between, take it outside and place it on a table or on chairs on a warm, dry, sunny day. If this is not possible, open all the windows on a warm, sunny, breezy day.
