Since I passed the level able to get rewards for this zone, I decided to give all the tactics I learned about this zone to attract as many named mobs as possible, alone, in EverQuest 2’s The Forsaken City. Pet owning classes that have the ability to “call the servant” should be able to solo almost all named mobs in this zone, excluding the epic mob and perhaps another tougher mob that cannot be rooted. Probably the best level to get through this area is level 70, so you can kill all the named mobs and get experience and a chance to get some good loot. As a side note, it’s important that your render distance is maximized so that you can target crowds through the gaps. Click “options” and then “performance” to access the render distance scroll bar.

Okay, here we go. As you enter zones, get out there and upgrade your tank pet. Go down the ramp and you will see four Terracotta Warriors linked together. Kill them (the reason is that you will attack these monsters later if you don’t kill them now) and then put invisibility and head down the left path. Inside the large room upstairs you will be “Mentor Zama” or his placeholder “a shadow mentor”. Below that will be “First Mate Bilgebelly” or its placeholder “a looter planner”. On the other side of the chasm below you, if you press the Tab button multiple times, you will come across “Venomouse Queen” or her “Venomouse Breeder” placeholder. Now go back to the area and order your pet to stay and be sure to REMOVE any damage shields your pet may have. Go back to where you can target one of the named or your placeholder (not the Poison Queen) and send your pet to attack and immediately start running back to the area in. Once your pet faces the target, summon your pet with the “call servant” spell and run to the door area. It’s easy to tell when your pet has been engaged because your character will go into a fighting stance and you’ll see a little icon of two crossed swords next to your name. If you’ve done this correctly, all other mobs should lose Agro and reset, leaving you with only the named mob or its placeholder. If your pet has a damage shield when it is sent to attack, there is a good chance that another mob close to the named one will hit your pet and get damaged. Any mob that is harmed by your pet will follow you back to the area and you will have more creatures to deal with than you need. Once the named is dead, do the exact same thing with the other named.

Now on the Poison Queen. Make your pet follow you and increase invisibility. In the area on the right, you will see a fire pot in the corner of the room. Jump into the pot and call your pet to stay there. Run down and aim at Queen Venemouse with your Tab key. Start running back to the inside zone and once you are in the middle of the road before going up the ramp to the inside zone send your pet to face the Queen. If you get it right, a fun fight awaits you in the zone. As you may find out, if you stray too far from the mob before sending your pet out on the attack, you will miss the target and have to re-target. It is a game of trial and error. The Queen will spawn some little mobs to attack you during the fight and she’s actually pretty tough. You may want to use some of your skills that take several minutes to re-launch this fight to increase your longevity.

Okay, now you can start eliminating the mobs on the right side. In the room to the right and upstairs you will be “The Master Sculptor” or his placeholder “an expert sculptor” (these mobs are ghosts and can be attacked outside the room from a third person point of view). Update: The room on the right now has a door that must be opened in order to enter. So now you will have to open the door, target the mob and run back to the area before the door closes again. Throw it the same way you got “Mentor Zama” and “Bilgebelly”. The next two, named, will roll like you did with “Venomouse Queen”. Park your pet in the fire pot on the left, just in the entrance area to the room on the right. On the other side of the abyss, you’ll have to tab-click to point to “a pleading seeker” (Whoops! I forgot to write the name of the named mob! Oh well, you’ll know when you see it). Across the chasm and below, on the right side of the room, you will see “The Vegetarian Troll.” “The Vegetarian Troll” has no placeholder and is on what appears to be a 30-45 minute spawn timer.

And now, in the last name, you will go to the zone to kill. In the area, jump on top of the right fire pot and summon your pet. Order your pet to stay. This last named pull will be narrow. Go up the invisibility and go down the ramp. If the Terracotta Warriors have reappeared, kill them, if they haven’t, continue on the left path into the room. Go down the steps and then go up the hallway steps. At the top of the steps and outside the hall is where “Mentor Zama” appears. On your right you will see a wooden board. Cross the board and go down a short flight of stairs. Turn right and go up the hallway stairs. At the top of the corridor there will be a small room with a lot of mobs. On the other side of the room you will see the one called “Tornuk the Warweary”. This mob also doesn’t have a placeholder and has a timer of about 30-45 minutes. Aim at it and go back the way you came. Just outside the hall, you will now turn left to run up the short flight of stairs before the wooden plank. When you’re on the first step or two heading towards the table, send your pet to engage the named. If you do it too late, you will lose your goal. If you do this too soon, you will run into a lot of pain. If you time it perfectly, you can send your pet to attack and can run back to the area before his invisibility decreases due to his pet taking on the mob. As you run back to the entrance area, instead of running down the stairs in the hallway, just jump off the ledge to the floor below (it’s faster). You will also be out of the agricultural range of the other Terracotta Warriors when your invisibility decreases. Call your pet immediately and run to the area. The named will enter the room with you in a few seconds for you to kill him.

Up to this point, you should probably be able to kill named mobs you took out in one go. By this I mean that you had no need to root for the mob and drive your pet away as you struggled to replenish some health and power. War-Tired Tornuk may require you to drag him for a few moments to keep your pet alive. In the next tutorial, we will delve further into the Abandoned City, where you will need to use your root spell to survive the named fights. Until then.
